Chris Spear, President and CEO of the American Trucking Association hosts a Transport Topics LiveOnWeb broadcast featuring FedEx chairman, president and CEO Fred Smith, T. Boone Pickens, CEO of BP Capital Management, and Matt Godlewski, president of Natural Gas Vehicles for America.

The panelists discuss why natural gas is the dominant and preferred alternative fuel for trucking fleets, and specifically address the low and stable pricing, abundant supply and ability to reduce emissions.

Using real world examples, the guests discuss how fleets in various transportation sectors have converted their operations over to natural gas and the advantages they are seeing.

Mr. Smith, also the co-chair of Securing America’s Future Energy (S.A.F.E.), discusses the decision by FedEx to use natural gas, and his upcoming participation in a ceremony on October 11th in Oklahoma City, where he, Boone and Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, will cut the ribbon on FedEx’s first natural gas fueling station.

Boone emphasizes the strength of the natural gas infrastructure in the United States and recent advancements in technology, such as the introduction of the new CWI ISL G Near Zero (NZ) NOx natural gas engine. The engine makes natural gas the only fuel available that has an engine capable of meeting California’s Low NOx standard.

Matt Godlewski discusses how California is calling for as many as 900,000 Low NOx trucks to put in place in order to meet their new air quality standards by 2030, creating a huge market opportunity for both fleets and natural gas vehicle manufacturers.
